General questions

There are two cases:

1. Vacuum-controlled exhaust systems

If a vacuum-controlled exhaust system is replaced, our control system will continue to function if the new exhaust system also has a vacuum-controlled flap adjustment and this is reconnected to the vehicle's vacuum control system.

2. Electronically controlled exhaust systems

In the case of a retrofitted flap exhaust system, our control system will continue to function if the original electronic actuators are installed on the exhaust system and reconnected electrically.

This says absolutely nothing about whether flaps are installed. The phenomenon mentioned is a catalytic converter heating function that can be observed in all modern vehicles.

The engine control unit stimulates mixture greasing in order to bring the catalytic converter up to operating temperature as quickly as possible in order to comply with legal exhaust emission regulations.

As a result, the engine runs smoothly and quietly when warm. However, if it is cold, it will run 15-30 seconds louder immediately after starting the engine.

Basic note: There are both vacuum-controlled and electronic flap systems. In the case of older vehicles, these are usually vacuum-controlled flaps and in the newer ones, they are usually electronic.

Option 1: On most vehicles, you can see the flap(s) by shining a flashlight into the tailpipes. There are a few exceptions where the exhaust flaps are present in the tailpipes, but still not visible. This may be due to the fact that either the tailpipes are bent, or the flaps are installed in front of the rear silencer.

Option 2: Especially recommended if you are not sure, e.g. because there are no flaps to be seen in option 1.
Look under the car and look for a flap actuator in front of or behind the rear silencer. This should be located above the exhaust pipes. This is either a vacuum box or an electric actuator. The former can be recognized by the fact that a black vacuum hose with a diameter of about 6mm is connected to it. On the other hand, an electric cable with 3-5 poles is connected to the electric actuator.

Conclusion: If no flaps are visible in option 1 and neither a vacuum box nor an electric actuator can be found through option 2, then no flaps are installed in the vehicle.

A corresponding protection is already included in the vehicle itself. With the flaps closed, the exhaust gas throughput of the exhaust system is already significantly higher than what the engine needs to function.

Background: flaps can also get stuck closed or be defective.

The flaps only affect the volume, but not the performance of the engine or that it can then breathe more freely.

All our articles are always accompanied by detailed illustrated step-by-step instructions. The language of the instructions depends on the language in which the order was placed. All instructions are available in English, German and French.

We are currently unable to offer instructions in Spanish. If you order in Spanish, please let us know whether you would like English, German or French instructions. If you don't tell us anything, you will receive the instructions in English.

Our flap controls

In principle, it is possible to use the universal garage door opener to control our control system. However, it must be ensured that the garage door opener can handle a frequency of 433 MHz. It is an unencrypted signal on a carrier frequency of 433.92 MHz and the codec is the EV1527, which can also be seen on the remote control.

The PRO version already includes all the functions required to control the flaps. The DELUXE version also includes flap diagnostics. This means that the controller permanently monitors the exhaust flap(s) and recognizes if there is a malfunction (e.g. flap is stuck, stiff, does not reach the end position, ...) and reports the detected malfunction to the vehicle.

No

Our controls can all be removed from the vehicle after use without leaving any residue and are therefore also ideal for leasing vehicles.

Basic functions for all controllers:
  • Button A -> Flap(s) permanently open
  • Button B -> Flap(s) permanently closed
  • Button C -> function of the flap(s) as in stock (as if the control-unit is not installed)
  • Hold down any key for approx. 4-5 sec -> Activate "Memory mode" (The last selected setting is permanently retained) -> To confirm, the flaps open and close once.
  • Hold down button A for approx. 7-8 sec -> Activate "Fixed start mode = Open" (When starting the vehicle, the flaps are always open) -> To confirm, the flaps open and close twice.
  • Hold down button B for approx. 7-8 sec -> Activate "Fixed start mode = Closed" (When starting the vehicle, the flaps are always closed) -> To confirm, the flaps open and close twice.
  • Hold down button C for approx. 7-8 sec -> Activate "Fixed start mode = Stock" (When starting the vehicle, the flaps always behave as in stock) -> To confirm, the flaps open and close twice.
Additional functions for electronically controlled flaps depending on the vehicle (Only ONE of the following variants - described in more detail in the manual)
  • Button D -> No function
  • Button D -> The flap(s) open 50%
  • Button D -> One of two flaps is opened, the other remains closed
  • Button D -> Switching between other flap positions (e.g. 50% / 75% / 25%)

You will receive detailed, illustrated step-by-step installation instructions from us. This means that assembly is quick and easy (approx. 15-30 minutes).

If you are not technically well versed, you can alternatively have the installation carried out in your trusted workshop or at our site.

If you still have questions during installation, please do not hesitate to contact us (also by phone).

Our controls are always designed for the best possible installation location, which is also described accordingly in the instructions. If you have any questions regarding the installation or the laying of certain cables, we are happy to advise you at any time.
